The Forest's End

The Forest's End

“Developed within 30 days for Metroidvania Month 31 x Magical Girl Game Jam 13, The Forest's End is a modern take on the Metroidvania genre set in a futuristic and mysterious forest! Construct the ultimate magical girl robot in a far-off forest!”

My primary work on The Forest's End focused on level design and greyboxing, alongside programming, implementation, and playtesting support:

  • Level Design: I worked with Lead Designer Milton Guasti to create levels from the overall design specification, designing combat encounters, platforming challenges, and interactions around the player's expanding abilities.
  • Final Chase Sequence: I independently designed the game's final chase as a tense but achievable finale that challenges the player to demonstrate mastery of the abilities learned throughout the game.
  • Greyboxing: I built, tested, and iterated on levels directly in-engine, working closely with designers, programmers, and playtesters to refine pacing, challenge, and overall player experience.
  • Programming & Implementation Support: I supported development through bug fixing, smaller gameplay features, animation controller implementation, and other technical and in-engine work.
  • Art Pipeline Development: I created a Photoshop tileset pipeline that allowed artists to produce complete blob-layout tilesets without manually duplicating assets or repeatedly fixing seams.
  • Playtesting: I regularly playtested throughout development, identifying bugs, level-design issues, exploits, and opportunities to improve gameplay flow and clarity.
